invite members in good standing of either organization
to submit up to three monotypes or monoprints
for a juried exhibition at
The South Shore Art Center' Bancroft Gallery.
VENUE: South Shore Art Center is a non-profit organization based in Cohasset, MA. They offer exhibitions and gallery programs, sales of fine arts and studio crafts, courses and workshops, outreach to schools, and special events. The mission of South Shore Art Center is to enrich the communities south of Boston by engaging artists and by fostering an understanding and appreciation of the visual arts. The Bancroft Gallery is the centerpiece of the South Shore Art Center: Designed by architect Vcevold Strekalovsky, the gallery's trapezoidal floor plan and soaring ceiling create intriguing visual planes and sight-lines. Donated by Jessie Bancroft Cox to honor her parents, the Bancroft Gallery is recognized as one of the outstanding exhibition spaces in the greater Boston area.
JUROR: Catherine Kernan is a printmaker, painter and author. She is co-founder and partner of Mixit Print Studio, a professional open rental printmaking studio in Davis Square, Somerville, Massachusetts, and co-author of, “Singular & Serial: Contemporary Monotype and Monoprint”. She has been creating art since 1980. Her work can be found in the collections of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University, the Library of Congress, the National Museum of American Art and numerous other public institutions. Her work also appears in many corporate and private collections including the Bank of Boston, Fidelity, IBM, the Federal Reserve Bank and Cisco Systems, among others. Catherine has taught at many schools and colleges in the Boston area and has offered frequent workshops both nationally and internationally.
ELIGIBILITY:
Both MGNE and SSAC members may apply. Membership in either organization must be up-to-date to participate. All prints must be either monotypes or monoprints. For detailed descriptions of those terms, please follow this link to our website: www.mgne.org/monotypedefined/
Submitted work cannot have been shown at an earlier MGNE or SSAC exhibit. MGNE is open to artists working in the medium of one-of-a-kind prints. To join MGNE, follow this link: www.mgne.org/membership/

REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants can submit up to 3 entries, with an entry fee of $12 per piece. Two-dimensional submissions must be no larger than 38" on the longest framed side. Large size work (over 30") must be put under plexiglass. Work should be framed and ready to hang with a wire. Clip-on frames, saw-tooth and keyhole hangers will not be accepted. If you have an atypical display or a three-dimensional submission, you must contact the exhibitions committee in advance. Shipped work must be received at the gallery between February 14 and 19, 2022. Hand delivered work must be received at the gallery between Thursday, February 17 and Saturday, February 19, 10am – 4pm. The Gallery Director reserves the right to refuse installation of any work that is not appropriate for a professional exhibition at SSAC, or does not meet the stated guidelines.
ENTRY PROCESS:
We will begin accepting entries on Sunday, November 5, 2021 and will close submissions at midnight on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. ArtCall allows changes to your submissions until the deadline. Images must be JPEGs and should be sized between a minimum of 960 to a maximum of 1920 pixels on the longest side. We suggest that you take photos with large file sizes and then resize smaller to preserve imagery should we decide to create a paper catalog. The juror’s decisions will be sent out on Monday, January 17, 2022.
INSURANCE:
MGNE and SSAC gallery staff will handle your work with the care and respect that they accord their own work. SSAC carries insurance for your work while it is on the premises, but not during shipping or transport.
SALES:
SSAC will encourage sales and will give the artist 60% of the sales price. You may enter zero in ArtCall if your work is not for sale. Payment for sales will be sent at the end of the exhibit.
HAND DELIVERY:
Please label all artwork with your name, title of the piece, contact information and price. You must include an inventory form that you print out from ArtCall. Hand deliveries will be accepted from Thursday, February 17 – Saturday, February 19, 10am – 4pm. Pick up of hand delivered work will take place from April 5 – April 9, 10am – 4pm.
SHIPPED WORK:
Shipping details will be sent to you via email upon acceptance of your work by the juror. Shipped work will be returned shortly after the exhibit is taken down, provided that you have followed the instructions for return.
